Pecha, Melody

Hello My Name Is...

Melody Pecha

My teaching career began in 1986.  I taught High School Math at James Logan High School in Union City, California.  There were 21 math teachers on a staff of 125 teachers.  We had 3400 students and were received awards for national excellence twice.  After 4 years it was time to start my family... I took 5 years off, had three children, moved to Kent, Washington and then to Omak.  1n 1995 I started teaching at Tonasket High School.  In 1999 I was hired at Omak High School to replace (as best I could) Mr. Brantner.

I have been at Omak High School for 17 years.  During this time I have taught LAP Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Advanced Placement Calculus.

In May 2016 I was selected to help score the AP Calculus AB Exam in Kansas City, MO.  900 AP Calculus teachers converged on Kansas City and scored 140,000 Free Response Exams in 7 days.  I came away with insights into scoring that are guaranteed to help my students and contacts and connections with AP Calculus teachers from all over the country.

Each student in my class has access to a Google Classroom page, where I will post important links and announcements.  Some assignments will be listed, but if you are absent it is best for you to email me or talk to me in class about missed work.

My advice:  Math is a subject build on skills that are taught and practiced daily.  To learn math, you must do math. To learn to communicate your mathematics and logic behind your work you must practice showing your work.  I am happy to help students with their math, but I need you to be willing to ask for help.

2016-2017 Courses: Geometry, Pre-Calculus with Limits, AP Calculus AB

Parents who wish to contact me. Email is the best for an initial contact.  I can respond to emails privately and if needed we can set up a phone call or conference. (This prevents private conversations about students from happening while my classroom in full of students.)
